Atomic Design & Music

UX Planet — Medium | DENYSERGUSHKIN ✪

It is easier to explain difficult concepts to creative people through artwork than scientific terms. It has become extremely popular to illustrate the core of Atomic Design using the examples of atoms, molecules, bodies and so on. What if we dare to compare Atomic Design with music? And we use notes as a basis not the atoms.

This lil’ beauty is a BEAST

Every idea of making music starts with 7 notes. Any designer, the same as a musician, sharpens his tools much in advance before creating his unique masterpiece: listens to similar kinds of music, picks up scripts, chooses color palettes which correspond with the selected theme, comes to a decision about the genre, mood and so forth.

Accords are made out of notes. A designer frames prototype, put accords on the right places with the use of pencils and paper, makes margin notes where the pause should be held. In some cases a composer emphasizes something by means of CTA and have a listener follow him not considering the rhyme and the meaning. Some designers have a habit to remark something under the elements, in such a manner they explain their ideas to the world (to listener). It helps to comprehend who this music is for, what the target audience is.

In the process some of them pay extra attention to work and spend more time on composing a multipage opera, but the others limit themselves of a single page etude (Landing Page). No matter what result comes out of it, I can assure you, the music will find its fan. It depends on the music preferences: some people prefer pop style, some of them listen to alternative, another person holds on to the classical style in music and more conservative in his choice. Various fans are fond of average class of music and do not mind to paying for the ready-made(избитый) program like Word Press.

There are even places where the composers post the dribs and drabs of their masterpieces (demo versions) for the mass-volume audience, for instance Dribble. Using Bechance you would have to spend more time on the album composition. To get the audience listen to your music you will have to attract attention or have a large audience of followers. Either way, for composing of every musical piece you need 3 components: harmony, melody, and rhythm.

In this case harmony is the proper order of the elements on a page. Musical prowess lies in producing a harmonious melody (web page) by using musical staff (the grid).

With the help of the melody one can tell a great story to a listener. Sometimes it is essential to make jump and modern melody in which the world of purchases, innovations and exceptional products revolve. There are instances where the music can be slow-paced and smooth causing the feeling of security and tranquility to the listener.

At last, rhythm is what a sophisticated listener appreciates. That is because the very rhythm can give the listener emotions while using the product: animations, illustrations, tone of voice and so forth. Up-to- date rhythms may not even contain any sense and can be illogical, though they must give emotions to the audience.

Every composer goes in for his own way — to be a fine composer or a fine illustrator. The main idea is to remember that the music is not everlasting and that every style will find its admirer.
